We are now inviting applications for our residency program for a start date of July 1, 2018. The application deadline is December 3, 2017.  Applications can be submitted directly though the AAPM Medical Physics Residency Application Program (aapm.org/mprap).

The Harvard Medical Physics Residency Program is a CAMPEP accredited three year program providing research and clinical exposures in radiation oncology, and is intended for applicants with a Ph.D. in physics or related sciences. The first year is devoted to research and the remaining two years are devoted to clinical training. The program is supported by the three major teaching hospitals of the Harvard Medical School, the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical center (BIDMC), the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). The three Harvard hospitals offer an unmatched array of physics faculty and state-of-the-art technology including proton radiotherapy, Cyberknife®,  MR-Linac, SBRT, IGRT, 4D CT, fluoroscopic gating, image-guided brachytherapy, and IORT, as well as training at one of several outreach facilities.  The resources of the program include 16 linear accelerators, 6 CT simulators and three conventional simulators on the main campuses and 8 linear accelerators and 5 CT simulators at the affiliated sites. We believe that these combined resources will build a strong foundation in academic and clinical medical physics for the medical physics resident.

Embedded within the residency program is a CAMPEP-accredited Certificate Program. This enables individuals with a non-CAMPEP medical physics Ph.D. to complete all didactic requirements during the residency.

The educational philosophy of the Harvard Medical Physics Residency Program can be broken down into four principles:

  1. To provide comprehensive clinical education using the technical resources and specialist faculty available at the BIDMC, BWH and MGH.
  2. To provide training in medical physics that goes beyond the requirements of the board exam
  3. To develop clinical, translational and/or basic science research skills through a research year
  4. To develop future leaders in academic medical physics through this clinical training, research opportunities and graded responsibility within the program.

Our goal is to provide clinical training to enable the medical physics resident to pass the ABR boards and to educate the next generation of world-class medical physicists-scientists and leaders.
